El Bethel Missionary Baptist church was established on March 6, 1949 by Rev. Alexander Robinson located at 2340 geary Blvd san Francisco, ca. from there the church moved to 318 lakeview ave. as it continued to grow, on September 1, 1952 the church contracted to purchase its home at 1320 Golden gate ave and quickly became a cornerstone of the local community.
in june 1959, Dr. D. Manning Jackson was called to pastor. he organized the membership of the church to afford such progress that the mortgage of the church was paid off in july 1960. During reverend jackson’s fourteen years as pastor, the church sponsored low-income housing for senior citizens on golden gate ave., fillmore ave. and mcallister ave. consisting of 255 units and a 100-car parking facility naming the buildings el bethel arms and terrace. these facilities were pastor jackson’s dreams and vision.
on december 4, 2013, the Lord assigned Reverend keva l mcneill as the pastor of el bethel. pastor mcneill has been diligent in building the body of christ (the church) by emphasizing the great commission, matthew 28:18-20 as the number one priority of el bethel mbc.
he has implemented a six semester evangelism/discipleship training program on sunday mornings and wednesday evenings, young adult bible study on sunday mornings and bible study of wednesday afternoons. several ministries have been organized under his leadership which include: new members orientation training, new member spiritual foundation training, family outreach ministry, sunday school breakfast ministry, quarterly team mission, men’s mentoring movement (with deacon george jurand), youth praise dance ministry, children’s worship services (2nd sunday of each month), revised children’s church ministry and implemented computer upgrades for the church financial affairs.
pastor mcneill has also established the western addition “Church in the park” ministry in collaboration with the city wide sunday streets neighborhood events.
pastor mcneill is the board president, and nine board of director members are members of el bethel mbc.
el bethel mbc is on a mission to be a beacon of hope in the westen addition, city/county of san francisco, and the bay area vicinity. we are very active in social justice and civil affairs, as well as great support in educational and economic opportunities for our community. our church is steadfast and faithful through generations.
